Chandigarh man held for stealing 19 high-end bicycles

Chandigarh, Sep 21 (IANS) A 40-year-old illiterate and unemployed man was arrested for having stolen 19 high-end bicycles of morning walkers from Chandigarh's parks, police said on Tuesday.
The stolen bicycles recovered were of nearly Rs 4 lakh.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Charanjit Singh Virk said accused Neemkanta, who lives in suburban Kansal with his wife and son, used to visit parks in the early morning to steal the cycles.
During interrogation, he confessed that he had stolen many cycles from various parks and used to conceal them in forests in Kharar in Mohali district.
Virk said 19 cycles have been recovered. Neemkanta was arrested from a parking lot in Sector 9 while trying to sell a stolen Avon Element Pro Cycle.
Based on a tip-off, the Gujarat ATS arrested Sumra as he landed at Delhi Airport from Dubai. According to the Gujarat ATS, Sumra has been involved in four cases of peddling heroin and other narcotics substances worth Rs 2,500 crore.
After the meeting, she said: "We discussed issues related to road and infrastructure projects, including transport, road connectivity and manufacturing units of electric buses. We have also discussed building some flyovers in Kolkata."
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday gave the go-ahead for putting a new Bill for this before the Cabinet, paving the way for its enactment in the next Assembly session.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Amarinder Singh said his government would be happy to work in conjunction with the Centre to ensure adherence to proper Covid-19 protocols, including testing and vaccination of pilgrims using the corridor.
A CBI spokesperson here said that the agency sleuths carried out searches at the premises of Eastern Coalfields Ltd General Manager Subhash Mukhopadhyay, retired General Manager Sushanta Banerjee, colliery agent H.C. Moitra, Manager, Security, Mukesh Kumar, and Inspector, Security, Rinku Behra.
Former Congress President and Sonia Gandhi's son, Rahul Gandhi, was also present during the meeting. The meeting was held at Sonia Gandhi's residence at 10 Janpath here.
