Bride, Groom Die In Accident Near Ludhiana Hours After Wedding As Car Rams Into Harvester Combine

    The couple were returning from Jagadhari in Haryana to Ludhiana when the Mahindra Bolero they were travelling in collided with a combine harvester on the Amritsar-Delhi highway.


    A newlywed couple were among the five killed when the SUV in which they were travelling met with an accident near Ludhiana on Monday.


    After the wedding on Sunday night, the couple were returning from Jagadhari in Haryana to Ludhiana when the Mahindra Bolero they were travelling in collided with a combine harvester at Dhandari Kalan on the Amritsar-Delhi highway. Two others were injured in the accident.


    It is learnt that The Mahindra Bolero was returning to Tibba Road here from Jagadhri in Haryana after the wedding on Sunday night. According to sources, as the SUV reached near Dhandari Kalan, it rammed into the harvester combine.


    The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old bride Heena, Zareena, Jamshed Alam and Husan Bano. Groom Anjum (25) and Rukhsana, his close relative, were injured. They are undergoing treatment at SPS Apollo Hospital here. The condition of groom is said to be critical. His family said they started from Jagadhri at around 5 am and the accident took place as they reached near Dhandari Kalan.


    Sources said Jamshed Alam was behind the wheel. The impact of the collision was such that the SUV was badly damaged and three people, including the bride, died on the spot, they added.

     

    The driver of the harvester combine fled the scene immediately after the accident. Soon, people gathered at the spot and started the rescue work. It was with some difficulty that the deceased and the injured were pulled out of the vehicle. All the victims were rushed to hospital where the bride and three others were declared brought dead.

     

    Soon, a police team reached the site and started an investigation. Sahnewal SHO Iqbal Singh said the police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304 of IPC against unidentified driver of the harvester combine after recording statement of Iqbal Ansari, brother of the groom. The accused driver has been absconding and the police have been looking for him, he added.
