Behbal Firing: Special Investigation Team To Quiz Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh

Darpan News Desk IANS, 20 Mar, 2019 07:42 PM

Probing the incidents of police firing at Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura, the police Special Investigation Team (SIT) has decided to question Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is now lodged in the Rohtak jail.

The SIT has sought court’s permission to interrogate him.

“Several witnesses have named the dera chief. So his questioning is necessary to unravel the plot behind the police firing incidents and identify the conspirators,” said a SIT member.

Describing the dera chief as a ‘suspect’, the official admitted they did not have “direct evidence” of his involvement at this stage.

On Tuesday, the SIT had opposed the anticipatory bail plea of former Akali MLA Mantar Singh Brar, claiming there was reasonable apprehension that he could tamper with evidence.

The SIT argued though Brar had appeared twice for questioning, he had been
evasive. The Sessions Court in Faridkot adjourned the case till tomorrow.
