Bank guard's shotgun goes off accidentally in J&K, 3 injured

Srinagar, April 27 (IANS) Three persons were injured on Wednesday when a bank guard's shotgun went off accidentally in J&K's Shopian district.
Police sources said the shotgun of a bank guard at the J&K Bank branch in Shopian town went off accidentally on Wednesday.
"Three persons were injured in this incident. The injured have been shifted to the hospital," sources said.
Security guards in all the banks in J&K are provided with point 12 bore shotguns and not rifles. While bullets are used in rifles, the ammunition of a shotgun is made of cartridges.
These pellet filled cartridges have the potential of causing injury to many since one cartridge on an average is filled with 50 lead pellets.

The deceased was identified as Himanshu while his wife Priya (30) and son Krishna (3) are presently admitted to Safdarjung Hospital. The other injured were Harsh Makkar (40), his wife Seema (35), one Ice Cream vendor Ranjeet Sarkar (32) and one pedestrian Varun Kashyap (35).

A spokesperson for the Chief Minister's Office said the Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies, briefed the Cabinet about the status of the ongoing procurement. The deceased, Sarabjit Singh Brar, was a resident of Laburnum Apartments at DLF Phase 1 in Gurugram. At the time of the incident that occured on Wednesday morning, Brar was at his flat along with his wife.
Joining the issue, newly-appointed state Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring targeted Mann over the Centre's interfering in the state's law and order matters in the context of the Punjab Governor's visits to the border areas.
