At 23, Nita Ambani Was Told She Could Never Be A Mother

Darpan News Desk IANS, 15 Apr, 2019 05:06 PM

Chairperson and founder of the Reliance Foundation Nita Ambani’s old interview in which she revealed that the road to motherhood wasn’t easy for her is now trending on social media.

In the interview, Ambani said she was told at 23, a doctor told her she would never conceive. She was shattered , because she always wanted to experience motherhood. Even her essays read: “When I’ll be a mother…”.

The interview quoted her as saying: “A few years after I got married, I was told by the doctors that I would never have children. Even when I was in school, I would write long, copious essays titled, ‘When I’ll be a mother…’ Here I was at the age of 23 being told that I would never conceive. I was shattered. However, with the help of Dr Firuza Parikh, who is one of my closest friends, I first conceived my twins!”

She had her twins —Isha Ambani Piramal and Aksh Ambani— through surrogacy, but they were both born premature, two months before due date.

Three years later, she conceived Anant Ambani naturally, but the pregnancy took a toll on her.

Nita went on to reveal: “Everything was double magnified. I was so overjoyed at being a mum that I had let myself go.”

Isha spoke about being an IVF baby in a recent interview. She said: “My parents had us after seven years of marriage—my twin Akash and I were IVF babies. When my mother finally had us she wanted to be a full-time mum initially. Later, she went back to work when we were five, but she was still a tiger mom.”

She also said that Nita Ambani was a strict mother.

“If we wanted to bunk school, dad would be like ‘It’s no big deal’ but mom would ensure we ate on time, studied hard and got our playtime as well. My grandparents (paternal and maternal) and my maasi played a huge role in bringing us up.”
