Amritsar sends food packets for flood-hit Kashmir

Darpan News Desk IANS, 13 Sep, 2014 08:39 AM
Nearly 50,000 food packets were airlifted from this Sikh holy city Saturday for flood-affected people in Jammu and Kashmir.

The food packets were prepared at various gurdwaras here and in nearby areas at the behest of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

Food packets were also prepared in the community kitchen of the Golden Temple complex here.

The food packets, containing paranthas, vegetable and pickle, will be handed over to army authorities for distributing to the people affected by the floods, SGPC officials said.

The SGPC had also dispatched 25,000 food packets Friday.

The food packets are being sent following aid requests from the army and the Jammu and Kashmir government.

Large parts of Jammu and Kashmir have been affected by floods in recent days. Several parts of the state's capital Srinagar have been inundated after the Jhelum river breached its banks.
