All Vehicles Can Ply On Sundays In Delhi

Darpan News Desk IANS, 07 Dec, 2015 12:12 PM
In contrast to the other six days of the week, all vehicles will be allowed to ply on Delhi's roads on Sundays, PWD Minister Satyendra Jain said on Monday.

"We will allow all vehicles to ply on Sunday because of less traffic. People can go out shopping (in their cars)," Jain said.

The announcement about Sunday -- pending till now -- came a day before the Delhi government will undertake a thorough review of the restrictions on vehicular traffic in the capital.

The government last week decided to allow vehicles with private vehicles with even and odd registration numbered plates on alternate days in a move to bring down the volume of traffic -- and air pollution.

From January 1, odd numbered vehicles will ply on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and even numbered cars on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Delhi has nearly 90 lakh registered vehicles, almost a third of them cars. The rationing of vehicles on roads won't be applicable to CNG-driven public transport including taxis, buses and auto-rickshaws.

There appears to be some confusion regarding two-wheelers.
