Akali Leaders Protectors Of Drugs Racket In Punjab: Rahul Gandhi

IANS, 13 Jun, 2016 11:45 AM
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Monday flayed the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal leaders in Punjab and said they were the "protectors of drugs business in the state".

"Akali Dal leaders are the protectors of the drug business in Punjab. If we come to power, we'll finish the drugs problem in one month," he said while addressing an anti-drugs rally in Jalandhar in Punjab.

He also referred to the tussle the forthcoming Bollywood movie 'Udta Punjab' had with the Central Board of Film Certification and said that certain people did not wish to face reality vis-a-vis the drugs problem in Punjab.

"There are good officers in the Punjab Police who want to work, but the SAD government isn't giving them the required freedom to function. If Punjab is to be given a better future, there is no other way but to stop the drug menace in the state," the Congress leader added.

Gandhi said: "On one hand, there is drugs problem, and on the other hand there are problems of law and order and unemployment in Punjab."
