Airports, Highways To Boost India's Infra Success Story: Arun Jaitley

IANS, 07 Jun, 2016 11:47 AM
India's airports, highways and railways will boost the country's infrastructure success story, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said here on Tuesday.

"We have transformed into a fast-growing economy. This will be a turning point for India's infrastructure," he said during a Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) felicitation programme.

The event was organised to mark the recognition of the Indira Gandhi International airport here as the world's best by the Airport Council International (ACI) for two consecutive years - 2014 and 2015.

"The private partnership model has succeeded. Airports have become more convenient centric," Jaitley said.

DIAL is a joint venture company between the global infrastructure conglomerate GMR Group, the Airports Authority of India and German transport company Fraport.

Following the PPP model in railways, 400 stations are being planned with private partnership, Jaitley said.

He also said that 25 new regional airports will be added and over 10,000 km of highways will be built this year.
