After film industry, drug abuse 'rampant' among children of Kerala Police officials

Kochi, May 25 (IANS) After major stakeholders of the Malayalam film industry expressed concern over influx of drugs in the industry, Kochi City Police Commissioner K. Sethuraman on Thursday said drug abuse among children of police officials is also "rampant".
Speaking at annual meeting of the Kerala Police Association, Sethuraman said: "The use of drugs is prevalent among the children of police officials at all levels. Two children of a Superintendent of Police are victims of drug abuse and this affected his family life too. There has to be a serious check to prevent this rampant drug abuse, which is alarming."
"Appropriate inspection should be done at the Police quarters. Across the state, the use of ganja and MDMA has gone up in recent times. Even though the percentage of use of drugs in Kerala when compared to the national average is low, things have reached a stage when it can shoot up in no time," added Sethuraman.
Last month, major stakeholders in the Malayalam film industry had expressed concern over the influx of drugs in the industry after which State Culture and Films Minister Saji Cherian assured that the government will seriously look into issues and will call a conclave of all concerned in the industry for a meeting.
Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of the Chitti Bein in Simbli in Hoshiarpur district, the Chief Minister said Punjab is a sacred land of great Gurus and saints, who have shown the way to preserve the environment. He said, following in the footsteps of the Gurus, the government would soon embark upon a campaign to preserve the natural resources of the state.
A portion of the perimeter wall, extending upto 15 feet, near gate number 27 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport crashed down on Sunday, leading to security concerns, officials said here on Monday.
The arrested has been identified as Gurbhej Singh of Tarn Taran. He has a criminal background and had recently been released from Goindwal Sahib Central Jail. Police have also named Sukhdeep Singh, Lakhbir Singh, Satnam Singh, Yadwinder Singh, and Baaghi Singh in the FIR.
Addressing the gathering, Mann said with this 580 Aam Aadmi Clinics are now operational in the state. He said these clinics have been dedicated to the people in three phases. He said these clinics have already proved to be a cornerstone in imparting quality health services to people.
In his address at an event in Punjab's Ludhiana city after dedicating 80 Aam Aadmi Clinics, Kejriwal said the central government has put probe agencies after him to prove "by any means" that he is "a thief".
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Majithia on Friday demanded the dismissal and arrest of Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak after allegations that he allegedly committed unnatural sexual offence with a minor boy.
