AAP to approach higher court against Kejriwal's detention

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 22 May, 2014 01:27 PM
The AAP Thursday said it will approach a higher court against the magistrate's decision to send its leader Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody in a defamation case.

"We will approach a higher court against the order issued by the district court which sent Kejriwal to judicial custody," party leader Sanjay Singh told the media after meeting Kejriwal in the Tihar Jail.

AAP leaders and Kejriwal's wife Sunita met the former Delhi chief minister in prison. A court Wednesday sent him to judicial custody for two days after he refused to furnish a bail bond of Rs.10,000 in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, whom Kejriwal called "corrupt".

"We will wait till Friday as whether the court allow him bail, then will decide our future strategy. We will call our volunteers' meet and decide," party leader Gopal Rai said.

He said the party will go to the people of Delhi and tell them about the corrupt deeds of Gadkari.

Talking to reporters, another AAP leader, Prashant Bhushan, said: "The bail bond is required only when the court feels that an accused can flee. Did the court feel that Kejriwal will run away?"
