Karan Sandhu, son of senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and veteran journalist Kanwar Sandhu, died of heart failure at the PGI here on Wednesday.
Family sources said 35-year-old Karan was rushed to the emergency ward of the institute early in the morning, where he passed away at 5 am.
The cremation was attended by a large number of people, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leader HS Phoolka.
Karan did his schooling from St Stephen's School, Chandigarh, before doing MBBS from Sri Guru Ram Das Medical College, Amritsar.
He and his wife were to leave for Canada after counting for the Punjab Assembly seats on March 11. Kanwar Sandhu is a contestant from Kharar. He headed AAP's manifesto drafting committee on agriculture.
Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh condoled the death.
In his message, Amarinder expressed grief over the untimely death and conveyed sympathies to the bereaved family.
