2 Women Caught With Rs 25 Lakh Gold Bars Hidden In Rectum At Chandigarh Airport

IANS, 07 Mar, 2018 12:52 PM
In a rare case, the Customs Department caught two women passengers carrying over 800 gm of gold, reportedly worth Rs 25 lakh, in their rectum at the Chandigarhinternational airport today.

The passengers have been identified as Amandeep Kaur (25) from Amritsar and Sumanjit Kaur (27) from Batala.

An official said on condition of anonymity that one of them was carrying four gold biscuits, weighing 466 gm, while the other was carrying three gold biscuits, weighing 355 gm. “This is the first case of women attempting to smuggle gold in their rectum,” the official said.

Customs officials said the women arrived at the airport on an IndiGo flight from Dubai in the morning.

Sources said the women were apprehended as their body language appeared suspicious while passing through the green channel. They were subsequently frisked and 821 gm of gold was found concealed in their bodies.

An official said the women were “carriers” and admitted to smuggling after sustained interrogation. The official said the gold was seized and the women let off after completing the documentation.

The seizure comes four days after Customs officials had caught a 20-year-old college student from Punjab, who had concealed three gold biscuits, weighing 228 gm, in his rectum.
