2 Kenyan Women, Man From Punjab Held Under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act

IANS, 29 Mar, 2018 11:52 AM
The Punjab Police on Thursday said it has arrested two Kenyan women and a man from Hoshiarpur in the state after 300 grams of heroin was seized from them.

The women were identified as Margaret and Eric, presently residing in New Delhi, and the man was identified as Amritpal Singh, a resident of Bulhowal in Punjab.

The police said the three were booked under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

SSP, Hoshiarpur, J Elanchezhian said a police team in the city’s Civil Lines area signalled a car to stop, but on seeing the police the car’s driver tried to escape.

After a brief chase, the police intercepted the car. A search of the vehicle’s occupants — driver Singh and the two Kenyan women — led to the seizure of 100 grams of heroin from each of them, the police said, adding that the car has been impounded.

During preliminary interrogation, the Kenyan women revealed that they used to smuggle heroin from Delhi and sell it in Punjab.

Two cases under the NDPS Act had previously been registered against Singh in Adampur in Jalandhar and Model Town in Hoshiarpur, police said.
