2 arrested for murder of Punjab truck driver in Lucknow

Lucknow, March 23 (IANS) Two youths have been arrested in connection with the murder of a truck driver from Punjab whose body was found inside the driver's cabin.
The accused -- 19-year-old Rohit Kumar and 26-year-old Kamal -- are residents of Sitapur.
During interrogation, Rohit told police that the truck driver Harpinder, 60, originally from Faridkot district, tried to harass him sexually under the influence of alcohol.
In order to save himself, he attacked Harpinder with an iron weapon.
DCP East Hridesh Kumar said: "The accused also told us that in order to destroy the evidence, they drove the truck to the outskirts of the city and fled with its key and some money and even threw the weapon at a secluded place.
"The two have been booked under IPC sections of 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence)."
Earlier on Monday, police found Harpinder's body inside the truck with an Uttarakhand number plate.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann here. A spokesperson for the Chief Minister's Office said the new policy would be applicable for five years from October 17, 2022 and will spur industrial development and generate more employment opportunities.

The accused were identified as Sardar Jagpal Singh, 51, Harjinder Singh Raina, 71 and Sudershan Singh Wazir, 67. Wazir is a cousin of the deceased J&K politician. The 68-year-old Wazir was found murdered in a flat in Delhi's Basai Darapur area in March, 2021.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Wednesday arrested an air passenger from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here for possessing 3,360 gram cocaine valued at Rs 33.60 crore. A DRI official said that they got a specific intelligence tip off that an Indian national arriving from Addis Ababa to Mumbai by Ethiopian Airlines flight might be carrying a narcotic substance.
