10 dead, 55 injured after bus plunges into Jammu gorge

Jammu, May 30 (IANS) At least 10 people were killed and 55 others injured on Tuesday after a bus plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu district, police said.
According to the police, the accident took place in the Jhajjar Kotli area after the driver lost control of the vehicle which was on its way to Katra town from Amritsar.
Confirming the toll to reporters, Jammu SSP Chandan Kohli said the "rescue operation is almost complete and an SDRF team is also present on the spot".
"The bus was carrying more passengers than the prescribed limit which will be probed during the investigation," he added.
Four critically injured passengers have been shifted to the Government Medical College, Jammu.
The award will be given to village sarpanch Harjinder Kaur for providing excellent sanitation facilities. In the context of International Women's Day (March 8), this award will be given to those women who have done good work in the water supply and sanitation sectors.
The double-decker bus was going from Delhi to Bihar when it hit a divider and overturned on Sunday night. The injured have been sent to the district hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
According to the Railways, some trains coming from Barauni to New Delhi, from Howrah Junction to Jabalpur, from Lucknow to Patliputra, the Humsafar Express from Anand Vihar Terminal to Gorakhpur and the Jharkhand Express coming from Hatia to Anand Vihar Terminal have been cancelled.

The sources said that after a flight from Sharjah arrived at the airport, a passenger alerted a Customs officer about a flip cover being left behind on a trolley. Upon checking, the officer recovered 10 gold biscuits, wrapped in the cover.
The incident took place on Tuesday at Tikrapara area of Raipur. The deceased have been identified as Aslam Ahmed and Kahkasha Bano, the couple got married on February 19 and their wedding reception was scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
