  • Pistachios Also Sold In Canada Blamed For At Least 11 Illnesses In US
ATLANTA — At least 11 people in nine U.S. states have been infected in a salmonella outbreak linked to pistachios and two of them have been hospitalized.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the affected pistachios are also sold in Canada, but the Canadian Food Inspection Agency had not issued a warning about the nuts as of early Thursday.

The CDC says the pistachios sold under the brand names of Paramount Farms, Trader Joe's and Wonderful have been recalled by the grower due to the risk of salmonella contamination.

The agency says people began getting sick on Dec. 12 and those affected range in age from 9 to 69. The states involved are Alabama, Arizona, Connecticut, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Virginia and Washington.

The CDC said the investigation is ongoing.

Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps and can last four to seven days.
