Grilled cheese sandwich eaters are also more charitable and more adventurous, the poll of 4,600 people discovered.

According to the findings, 32 percent of grilled cheese fans have sex at least six times a month.

Over 80 percent of people who ate grilled cheeses said they have donated their time, money or food to the needy.

"In an ongoing effort to engage with our community, we thought that US National Grilled Cheese Day would be a fun way to gauge the habits and behaviours of our users," said Christian Wiklund, co-founder and CEO of Skout in a statement.

Grilled cheese sandwiches are a traditional US comfort food that almost everybody enjoys yet the sandwich can be created in a bunch of different ways.

"It is interesting to see how different our users are, but they all have one thing in common: the grilled cheese sandwich," Wiklund added.

Nearly 60 percent of adults surveyed said they prefer a grilled cheese sandwich that mixes two types of cheeses. Only 40 percent were grilled cheese purists.
