In B.C. Tom Mulcair Says Only He Can Stop TPP Deal, Accuses Trudeau Of Siding With Harper

  • In B.C. Tom Mulcair Says Only He Can Stop TPP Deal, Accuses Trudeau Of Siding With Harper
OTTAWA — NDP Leader Tom Mulcair says Justin Trudeau of the Liberals is going along with Stephen Harper's job-killing Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, telling voters he's the only leader who can ensure a better agreement for Canadian families and workers.

Campaigning in British Columbia, Mulcair accused Harper of desperately signing on to a secret trade deal with 11 Pacific Rim partners simply to have something to announce on the election trail.

Mulcair says Trudeau — unlike the NDP — would back the Conservatives on a pact that threatens tens of thousands of jobs and promises to drive wages down.

Trudeau has said the Liberals support free trade and will carefully examine the Trans-Pacific deal, touted as the largest trade agreement in history.

Mulcair says the New Democrats support free trade, too, but want to forge a better deal for Canada.

He insists it is realistic to expect a renegotiated agreement that protects Canadian jobs.
