BC Liberals call for review of pandemic Back to School plan

  • BC Liberals call for review of pandemic Back to School plan

As British Columbians head to the advance polls this weekend for John Horgan’s pandemic election and amid rising numbers of COVID-19 cases tied to B.C. schools, the BC Liberals are calling for a review of B.C.’s pandemic Back to School plan.

“We should be in the B.C. Legislature right now, making sure assistance is flowing to those who need help, protecting students and teachers, and fighting the virus. Instead of working to ensure that our schools are kept safe, John Horgan put himself first and decided to call a risky election,” said BC Liberal candidate Mary Polak, who is running for re-election in Langley. “Since September there’s been an increasing number of COVID-19 exposure events in B.C. schools, which is why whoever forms government must do a review of the pandemic Back to School plan currently in place.”

Since schools returned in September there have been: 166 school exposure events 131 schools affected 24 schools with multiple exposure events “The only reason British Columbians are voting in the middle of a pandemic is because John Horgan broke his word, put himself first, and put you at risk,” concluded Polak.

“And what is the Minister of Health doing? He’s out campaigning. And what is the Premier doing? He’s busy preparing for debates. There are more cases in schools every day putting children, teachers, and parents at risk, and instead of sitting down with parents to address their anxieties and concerns, the Minister of Education is preoccupied with politics. We need a plan to restore trust and confidence in our schools and that’s what the BC Liberals are offering.”

Since John Horgan called the election, 2,826 British Columbians have tested positive for COVID-19.
