Flash Dance by Anushka Khanna

Darpan News Desk, 24 Jul, 2019

"By subverting traditional codes, our latest collection is the antidote. It’s breezy, easy and chic. Just how clothes should feel.”

When it comes to Indian clothes, we seem to resign ourselves to being weighed down by voluminous, uncomfortable clothing. The heavier, the better seems to be the mantra. But why?

    Q) What is the inspiration behind the Flash Dance collection?

In a continuation of our Spring-Summer vibe, we wanted to reiterate the feeling of lightness. But how do you translate that to festive wear? It’s a challenge we posed ourselves, in our continuing quest to provide women everywhere with effortless separates. While women have embraced the comfort of athleisure, when it comes to Indian clothes, we seem to resign ourselves to being weighed down by voluminous, uncomfortable clothing. The heavier, the better seems to be the mantra. But why?

By subverting traditional codes, our latest collection is the antidote. It’s breezy, easy and chic. Just how clothes should feel. It’s fit for the hip bride; it’s fit for the renegade sister; it’s fit for the sophisticated mother-of-the-groom; it’s fit for every bridesmaid who wants to still be herself on her BFF’s big day; it’s fit for Diwali or Eid; it’s fit for destination weddings; it’s fit for sumptuous palaces; it fits your life.  We’ve used print and texture, flare and fit, textile and embellishment to bring together the perfect mix and match festive wardrobe. There are long jackets and lehngas, kimonos and wide leg pants, slips and shararas. These are clothes to move in. These are clothes to dance the night in.

These are clothes that feel as easy when you slip them on as when you slip them off. These are the clothes that #allthecoolgirlswillbewearing. (And yes, that’s YOU!)

    Q) How do you define fashion in your own words?

Fashion is about being true to your life and finding your unique voice. All the cool girls who wear Anushka Khanna take my pieces and make them their own for their busy, multi-tasking lives.

    Q) What is the fashion forecast for 2019?

I’m loving all the seaside and nautical elements. I’m looking to continue with the idea of easy, free flowing separates that can be styled in many ways.

While designing for fashion week is a more streamlined process, I’m constantly looking for inspiration all through the year, and [then] put these together in 3-4 collections a year. My design process is a bit erratic, but there is a method to the madness, and that is what gives every piece its essence and ties it together.
