Wedding Story: Mani & Navi

Darpan, 21 Jul, 2015
    Q: How did you meet?
Navi: We look back now to realize how many times our paths may have unknowingly crossed. We lived only five minutes away from each other, we both attended the same gym and Mani used to work at the same grocery store that I used to shop at. Despite the many chances we may have had to meet, it took the internet for us to find each other.

Q: What do you love most about one another?
Mani: From the moment I first met Navi, I felt so comfortable with him. It’s very easy to talk to him about almost anything. He is a very understanding and supportive person. He always gives others unconditional love. But the thing I like most about him is how he can’t stand to see me sad no matter what the reason is. He would do anything to bring a smile on my face. Navi: It’s hard to find anything I don’t like about Mani. I love her beautiful smile, super understanding nature, and willingness to do anything to spend time with me and family. There’s never a dull day when she is around, always doing something silly to bring a smile on my face. She is such a compassionate and caring person, always putting other people’s needs before her. She takes care of my family as her own. She’s my best friend and the love of my life. I couldn’t ask for a better wife.

Q: Describe your wedding day. What was your favourite moment?
Mani: Our families, friends made our wedding very memorable for us. For me it was a very emotional day. I remember it being a roller coaster of smiles and tears. I had been told once that it was good luck for the marriage if it rained on the wedding day. It rained, and then it opened up with gorgeous sunny skies in the afternoon for the photos and the rest of the evening.
Navi: My favourite moment was sitting in front of Guru Granth Sahib and waiting for Mani to arrive. I was so excited to see her. I overheard that she was about to enter. I turned back as she walked down the aisle and I was in awe of how beautiful she looked. Even though I got yelled at for turning around, it was all worth it. That moment will always remain special to me.

Q: Could you tell us about your reception?
Mani: From the start to finish, the evening was filled with dining, dancing, speeches and fun. We wanted to do something unique for our entrance. So, we made an entrance on a bicycle. Even though initially I was terrified that we would fall, as soon as we entered, the fear turned into excitement. The event followed by us cutting the cake, the first dance, and then the couples dance, and at the end there was a dance-off. Everyone enjoyed taking part in it.

Q: Can you describe your outfits?
Mani: For the wedding I wore a custom made trad-itional lehenga of a bright maroon colour. It had jarkan and kundan embroidery in gold with cutwork. For the reception, I wore a trendy, fish cut style lehenga sari in hot pink and orange.
Navi: I wore a traditional cream achkan which was embellished with embroidery work, matching Mani’s lehenga. It was custom made by a tailor in India. For the reception, I wore a suit of a really nice shade of blue.

    Q: Where did you honeymoon?
A: Tofino and Maui island, Hawaii.

Q: What are your goals as a couple?
A:  To fill our house with love and happiness. I think our hopes have already come true; however, in not too distant future, a couple of healthy kids would be nice.

Q: What are the strengths of your marriage?
A:  We share a deep love and respect for each other, we give each other space, love without taking it for granted, and we always try to share each other’s interest.

Q: If you could provide any advice to other married couples, what would it be?
A: Choose one thing you can both do together to connect and grow together every day.
