It is still a breezy, marshmallow-y world this winter, with snow and ice whirling all around. Parties have died down and craziness has had its turn. It is time to start thinking about yourself, your comfort level and your winter closet.
This winter’s fashion is unique, like a floating snowflake falling from the heavens. It is unpredictable, it is playful, and it will knock your socks off.
The ladies this year have lots to play with, and the men embrace a slightly different form of sexuality. Shall we begin?
We’re diving right into the fashion pool… Take a step back in time, first of all, to the 1920s; your brown, black, or cream-coloured trousers will be oversized and fabulous. Pair one of these puppies with a playful, Elizabethan styled, ruffle collared blouse. Be big, be bold, and make a statement.
If you are seeking a funky night out with your gal pals, look to the 1960s. Go-go dancer dresses in hot yellows, oranges and pinks are back in style. You can dress like a prefect princess with a pair of matched-up high heels and an up-do hairdo. Makeup with this kind of outfit has to be light and creamy; do not over do it.
Some jewellery ideas can be statement rings, wild and crazy this time of year, such as a menagerie of beats like owls, rams, snakes, alligators, and lionesses; or on your neck, don fair, dew drop or spider-webbed necklaces. Be sure to sport a plainer outfit with such extravagant jewellery.
Ladies, let us also consider looking into more subdued looks for the office. A pencil skirt and boring old blouse is just not cutting it anymore. Have you thought about investing in a piece by Ca Va de Soi? The designers bring Jackie Onassis Kennedy’s looks into the modern world…and they are flawless.
When you are outside in the wintry cold, pop on a metallic-coloured, studded leather jacket. Your friend or your man will go wild for this look.
Now men, it is your turn; buckle your seatbelt for a runaway train full of fun fashion…
On the top, you will see rusty-coloured, oversized turtleneck tops; pair these with a more tailored or cropped denim jean. On your feet, a rugged, shined boot will do.
If you are looking for more rugged looks and manly feels, look no further than Canadian menswear brand WANT Les Essentiels De La Vie. These guys bring funky styles and the very essence of testosterone into their fashionable threads. Choose WANT Les Essentiels De La Vie when you feel like being comfortable and relaxed; try a sweatshirt mixed with a broken-in pair of jeans and loose trainers. It sounds perfect, doesn’t it? Crack open an aged bottle of wine and just let it ride.
During the weekend, you may sport a 1970s styled pair of aviator sunglasses and a trimmed beard. And on the outside, we are seeing handmade, feathery ponchos and other kinds of jacket wear. Yes, this is a trend that is pulling into a station near you quickly.
Have you thought about what to don on your noggin? With every great poncho must be a great cowboy hat. This is not recommended for work, but perhaps on a day trip with your lover or some pals. Hey, a cowboy hat sure outweighs the look of a man bun.
To look your best in and out of the office, we are seeing tailored white shirts with unbuttoned collars, and lighter or khaki-coloured chino pants. Please wear socks too; this season we are out with the crazy patterns and in with the monochromatic tones. Be playful but also stay plain at work.
However, get a little crazy if you want (always in moderation…) with an unusual cravat around that pretty little neck of yours. Or if you would like, sport a European long tie in monochromatic colours.
And last but not least, on your feet, you will be wearing clogs. I said it, woolen, comfortably outrageous clogs. This winter, how will you cozy up to funky fashion?
