Summer is finally here! And summer makeup is usually comprised of the obvious; indulging in bronzer and going to great lengths to create the ‘all natural’ look. These two summer trends will never go out of style and you really cannot go wrong with them. However, this year there are some very special makeup trends that will allow women of all ages to not only be bold and explore, but actually be able to try daring makeup looks without being criticized for wearing ‘too much’ during this playful season!
The top three trends include eyeliner art and design, bright blue and green eyeshadows and bold matte lipsticks.
Jet black, royal blue and seashell white are amongst the must-have eyeliner colours for this season. Remember this season celebrates the bold. So make your eyeliner pop by playing with different angles, designs, colours and shapes. Nothing is off limits! There are many varieties of eyeliners to choose from as well. You have your standard pencils to your gels and of course, the liquid liners we so very much love.
For a variety of different coloured eye pencils, check out Stila, sold at Sephora. Bobbie Brown and MAC also offer a range of different selections for gels and liquid eyeliners. White can be a bit tricky, however I have narrowed it down to a few choices: Laura Mercier Seashell, Prestige White, NYX Slim 918 and Giorgio Armani Smooth Silk Eye Pencil.
Along with the different eyeliner styles you can create this summer; your eyes will see a lot of blue and green. I’m not talking about ocean views and seaweed however; I am referring to the limitless shades and hues available for your precious eyelids! If you’re looking for something inexpensive, there is Sedona Lace’s 168 Pro Full Color Eyeshadow Palette that can be purchased online. This one is great because it includes many different variations of blue and green. Of course, any huge makeup brand will carry those colours but remember that autumn is around the corner and that season will favour more browns and neutral tones. Unless you love blue eyeshadow and will use it on more than one occasion, this palette is the best option for you.
Our eyes may be the windows to our souls, but our lips are just as important. Matte lipsticks will take on a big role for the summer. Try exciting, bright shades of reds, pinks, purples and orange. For classic reds, try Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture, Chanel Coromandel or Nars Heatwave. For playful pinks, you can choose N.Y.C Smooch Proof 16 HR Lip Stain or Candy Yum Yum by MAC. The Sephora Collection Color Lip Last in Royal Raspberry or the Matte Mauve is a great choice for vivacious purple. Or be really brave and try out the latest Dolce Gabbana Orange or the Givenchy Fruity Orange. Lipstick in orange shades can be intimidating at first, so dab on a little at a time with your pinky finger until you feel comfortable. And don’t worry, slowly but surely your confidence will build and you will be able to pull off this magnificent colour.
In conclusion, remember the more daring trends you try, the more your makeup will be in style this upcoming season. Focus on your eyes by experimenting with different angles, colours and designs. Also try and incorporate those brilliant blues and green eye shadows into your everyday wear. And don’t forget to slick on some sultry matte lipstick and put your best lips forward!
