Get proactive with your skincare regime to ensure decades of beautiful skin!
I have just celebrated my 30th birthday and one day for no reason I looked a little closer in the mirror. I was horrified by seeing not one or two, but many lines under my eyes and the starting stages of crow’s feet, I panicked. Not only were there fine lines but my eyes looked tired. Now, I’m probably more critical on myself as most women are and to some, my eye wrinkle issue is not even bad, but for me it got me thinking about future prevention and getting more proactive with my skincare regime. After lots of research and trials, I found that these products and techniques have begun to help me.
20’s ~ The Prevention Era
This is one of the best times for you skin, full of collagen support, dewy and radiant. The main complaint here would be combating acne. This is the time to really take care of your skin and prep your skin for future damage control, so make sure to apply an abundance of sunscreen. The skin around your eyes is very delicate, so be gentle when removing make-up or putting on eye creams. Lots of moisturizing and hydration is key to preserving your youthful appearance. No need for anti-wrinkle creams or microdermabrasions.
-For problems with acne, try Philosophy Clear Days Ahead Oil-Free Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment and Moisturizer.
30’s ~ The Discovery Era
Here we begin to notice fine lines around our eyes and mouth, skin begins to look duller and eyes tired. All the youthful laughter and late nights have slowly caught up. This is the time to exfoliate religiously! Start using a retinol (vitamin A in its purest form) at night and if your skin can handle it, try a moisturizer or cleanser with glycolic or salicylic acid. Both glycolic and salicylic exfoliate the skin removing dead skin cells, which reduces fine lines and signs of premature aging by increasing cell turnover: meaning healthier cells are now visible on the skin’s surface.
-Try Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer Night with Vitamin C Accelerated Retinol SA – available at most drug stores.
-Aveda Tourmaline charged radiance mask – smooths and refines skin immediately for a healthy glow – find at stand alone Aveda stores or local Aveda salons.
40’s ~ The Time is Here
The affects of sun damage have finally made an appearance, showcasing lines and wrinkles on your forehead, around your eyes, lips and the starting stages of deeper laugh lines. The 40’s is also the peri-menopausal period, meaning that your estrogen levels start to decline and your skin starts becoming thinner and loses elasticity. The most important step here is hydrating. Besides the obvious of drinking eight glasses or more of water a day, a good moisturizer with hyaluronic acid is necessary. A good hydration mask will also help retain moisture in your skin, for maximum results use mask after exfoliation for a deeper penetration. Microdermabrasion is highly recommended.
-Chanel Ultra Correction Lift Lifting Firming Day Cream – firms, softens, smooths skin while adding radiance to your complexion. Very moisturizing!
-Peter Thomas Roth VIZ-1000 Hyaluronic Acid Complex – intense hydration in a super concentrated 75 per cent hyaluronic acid serum helps keep skin hydrated with an invisible veil of moisture: available at Sephora
50’s ~ Embrace & Deal
The most visible sign here is dryness (dehydrated skin). Cell turnover is slow, enlarged pores are evident, sagging skin becomes a drag and you're losing your tone. Sounds devastating, but it’s nothing that a few good products can’t help. Go for regular facial peels, exfoliate, hydrate and wear SPF, these are some of the most important steps to take during this age. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on products either, I’ve listed a few great products that have proven results and don’t break the bank.
