Let the Games Begin!

Looks like FIFA World Cup inspired a lot more than the future generations of soccer players – this year, the World Cup took the fashion industry by storm. All the jerseys received a makeover. While some countries chose to stick with the classic, subtle look – others were out to make more of a bold statement with color blocking, bright bold colors as well as fashioning the “Johnny collar” style rather than the typical polo neck, for a more modern silhouette for men.

Inspired by the culture and the beautiful beaches of Rio de Janeiro – Adidas announced a brand new street wear fashion, the Battle Pack, which blurs the line between sports and fashion street wear. Each pattern covers an individual characteristic of the second largest city in Brazil. Adidas’ FIFA campaign, “All in or nothing” represents the black and white pattern chosen for the shoes. “We wanted to pay tribute to Brazilian designs associated with the boots and style of the players who use it. These soccer shoes will help our players prepare for a battle in Brazil on their quest for glory”, “said Markus Baumann, VP Senior of Global Soccer Adidas. This year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil was an explosion of colors from clothing to footwear.

Let’s see if you’re prepared – so that regardless of what happened or whether you’re cheering or bemoaning the FIFA World Cup results, you’ll definitely do so
in style!

Cropped tops have made their way into the latest trends and it looks like they’re here to stay as they have made quite a debut over the seasons. You can pair your crop top with a matching pencil skirt for a sophisticated evening look or keep it light and summery with a pair of shorts – cropped tops are versatile and can be paired with your mood for the day. This outfit is a combination of sexy and chic - no matter what the occasion.

With all the sports mania, loud slogans and logo tees are hitting mainstream runway with a storm. A handful of designers have used this time to get a few things off their chest. Jeremy Scott with his “I am a mess” lime green summer sweater and “Happy” by Sister by Sibling have chosen to keep it very simple and to the point. Alexander Wang with his “Parental Advisory” sporty sweater livens up the runway humour while Christian Dior, as always remains pretty, keeping it light and airy. Less is more – many of these mouthy shirts can be worn with a simple skirt or boyfriend jeans to avoid your message getting lost in all the noise. Leave the full body messages for billboards – subtlety is louder.

Keeping with the sporty theme – even your Manolos and Jimmy Choos can chime in to the excitement. Major fashion faux pas have now turned ultra chic: shoes with socks are not just for men. Socks with heels are not an easy look to pull off – it has been done before, very unsuccessfully (if I might add). It’s all about the perfect combination, so what was once ugly is now becoming style. This look gives you the freedom to express yourself – you can pick knee length socks or ankle socks, all with a variety of pattern and sequins. You can play it by safe by sticking to black or white socks, be bold with bright colors or girly with beautiful pastels. The sky is the limit! You can pair this look with cute girly dresses, summer shorts or with knee high pencil skirts.  Voila! A perfect pair!

Cobi Jones, former LA Galaxy midfielder once said, “The World Cup experience is more than just the game of soccer.” It’s an event that flew by faster than we expected and now that it’s ended, we’re all saying “Wow, is it over already?” I hope you enjoyed the games, basked in all its glory and persevered through defeat – after all, the World Cup only comes around every four years!
