Cheema Y, a Canada-based Punjabi singer-songwriter, is making waves with his latest EP, 'Cloud 9'. Featuring five tracks, the EP has captured the hearts of listeners worldwide, topping the global charts and significantly impacting streaming platforms. With a soulful blend of traditional and modern sounds, Cheema Y's music resonates deeply with fans, propelling him to the forefront of the Punjabi music scene.

From Student to Star

Cheema Y's journey into the music industry began in Canada, where he moved as an international student. Balancing his studies with various jobs, he found solace and excitement in music. By 2022, Cheema Y launched his career with Brown Town Music, driven by an unwavering passion and the support of his friends and family.

"The support from my community, friends and family played a crucial role in giving me the confidence to pursue this path wholeheartedly," he shares. Their encouragement and belief in his talent inspired him to transform his hobby into a viable career.

The 'Cloud 9' Phenomenon

'Cloud 9' is a testament to Cheema Y's dedication and creativity. The EP has quickly climbed the charts, securing a spot among the Top Albums on Apple Music in Canada and reaching #4 in India. With over 4.3 million streams on Spotify, the success of the EP is undeniable. Meta India even presented a banner to 'Snap', one of the standout tracks from the EP, on their Instagram Music platform.

The music video for 'Snap', featuring Cheema Y, Gur Sidhu, and Gurlez Akhtar, is a visual treat trending on Instagram Reels with over 81.3K views. It also debuted as the highest new entry, securing the #1 spot on Spotify's 'Local Pulse Chandigarh' chart.

The Inspiration Behind 'Snap'

"Snapchat has become an integral part of our daily lives, especially for young people who use it to share snippets of their activities," Cheema Y explains. "Through 'Snap', I wanted to capture the essence of this modern communication tool and how it fosters connectivity and interaction."

The song celebrates the joy and spontaneity that platforms like Snapchat bring into our lives, reflecting today's youth's fun and dynamic spirit.

A Unique Musical Style

Cheema Y prides himself on creating a distinct and original sound. Drawing from his personal experiences and emotions, he crafts music uniquely. "I focus on developing my voice and bringing fresh ideas to the music world," he says. This approach has allowed him to stand out in a competitive industry, offering listeners something new and exciting.

The Evolution of Punjabi Pop Music

Punjabi pop music is known for its vibrant energy and cultural richness, qualities that Cheema Y incorporates into his music. "The genre features infectious beats and lively rhythms that can make anyone want to dance," he notes. By blending traditional sounds with contemporary influences, Cheema Y creates tracks that engage and reflect his cultural heritage.

Looking Ahead

As Cheema Y looks to the future, he has numerous projects in the pipeline and is eager to continue creating music that resonates with people. "My primary goal is to continue creating music that brings joy and resonates with people," he says. He aspires to grow as an artist, exploring new genres and styles while reaching a broader audience and gaining international recognition.
