  • Tanpreet Parmar: The Journey to Miss Canada 2024

Tanpreet Parmar's journey to becoming Miss Canada 2024 is a powerful story of resilience, self-improvement, and unwavering determination. Her path was not one of instant success but a series of challenges she faced head-on with grace and perseverance. Competing for the Miss Canada title four times, Tanpreet's story is about believing in herself and her vision, demonstrating significant personal growth and transformation.

Tanpreet's initial step into pageantry began in 2014 when she competed for the Miss British Columbia title. She was exploring new avenues to build her confidence and self-esteem at that time. The experience ignited a passion to continue improving. She then won the Miss India-Canada pageant in 2016, which boosted her enthusiasm for pageantry.

Her attempts at Miss Canada saw her reaching the top six on her first try, then second runner-up on her second attempt, and not placing at all on her third. Despite these setbacks, she viewed them as opportunities to learn and grow.

Tanpreet sought feedback and worked on herself. She understood the need to build her confidence, define her purpose, and be more open about her vulnerabilities and struggles. This self-reflection led her to take two years off after her third attempt to focus on her mental health and overall well-being. During this time, she joined the Stigma-Free Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about mental health. As a speaker for the organization, Tanpreet shared her journey, discussing societal pressures and addressing unrealistic beauty standards.

Her advocacy for mental health is particularly significant in the South Asian community, where such discussions are often stigmatized. She emphasizes the importance of self-love, positive self-talk, and being proud of one's achievements. By advocating for mental health, she hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams without letting societal pressures and self-doubt hold them back.

As Miss Canada, she aims to inspire others to embrace their unique qualities and pursue their passions, no matter how many times they may face setbacks. Reflecting on her journey, Tanpreet says, "Some people get it on their first try. For me, it took four attempts. I'm glad I went back. This year, I felt more confident and purposeful. I've been advocating for mental health and being open about it. I want others to know they can do the same."

Tanpreet Parmar's journey is a powerful reminder that resilience, self-love, and determination can lead to remarkable achievements. She stands as a role model not only for aspiring pageant contestants but for anyone striving to overcome obstacles and fulfill their dreams.
