Wedding Story: Ivneet & Gurleen

  • Wedding Story: Ivneet & Gurleen

Q: Could you share your proposal story?

We got engaged at the Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen with our close family and friends. It was a simple afternoon full of love, joy and happiness which became the most special time of our lives. Due to its simplicity and depth, you probably won’t be able to make a Hollywood movie out of our proposal story; in spite of that we felt like rockstars and on top of the world.

Q: Describe your wedding day. What was your favorite moment?

Our wedding day was a spiritual journey. Me and Ivneet wanted to ensure that this was one day where we remained focussed on the divine elements of our marriage. Favourite moment: When you are enjoying the journey throughout, it is difficult to determine one favourite moment, especially when you are surrounded by your favourite people in that journey.

Q: How did you meet?

We met through our family friends but Ivneet likes to think its through pure coincidence, and that a lot of close family and friends played a huge part.

Q: What do you love the most about one another?

We both feel that its taken decades since our birth to become who we are today. We’ve both gone through so many life experiences and events (including immigration to Canada) that have shaped us to our present day reality. And since our first conversation, its felt surreal to be with each other. Any description beyond this can probably only be done through poems, shayari or love ballads.

Q: Could you tell us about your reception?

Our reception was a fun night. Full of dance, laughter, food, and interacting with loved ones. We missed a few people who could not make it and wished they were all here with us. Our sincere gratitude to Ivneet’s mom and dad, his entire family, my parents, family and acquaintances. If it wasn’t for them, the reception night would not have become so special and joyful. Me and Ivneet are grateful for all the support and blessings of our grandparents. We wish everyone a happier life and may god bless everyone.

Q: Could you describe your outfits?

Our outfits were chosen mutually by us and our families, representing the punjabi culture and traditions. I wore a red lehnga, and Ivneet wore an ivory coloured sherwani with a red turban. For the reception, I wore a peach coloured dress and Ivneet wore a black suit with a pink turban.

Q: What are your goals as a couple?

Everyday to bring out the best in each other, and to live each day to the fullest.

Q: What are the strengths of your marriage?

The word marriage itself represents strength, love, care, respect, kindness and goodness for the world. With blessings and support of the almighty and our loved ones, we can all hopefully imbibe these virtues in our life, and hence we become the real strength for each other.

Q: If you could provide any advice to other married couples, what would it be?

What’s between you and your partner, only you two know the best. Therefore, instead of any advice, we want to wish everyone the best of health, happiness, and prosperity and we hope everyone gets a chance to celebrate love and cherish it in their lives.

Our wedding day was a traditional Sikh ceremony at the gurudwara. Our favourite moment was first look, it was an opportunity for Jag and I to share a private (with photographers) moment before the actual ceremony.

We met in high school at David Thompson Secondary. Vick liked me for about two years before I finally decided to give him a chance (he was very persistent). We started dating in 2003 in grade 10. This September will be 14 years for us.
