Pari Goyal : A Trailblazer in Rhythmic Gymnastics

  • Pari Goyal : A Trailblazer in Rhythmic Gymnastics

"Gymnastics has taught me the value of hard work, discipline, and perseverance. It has shaped me into someone who dreams big and learns to bounce back stronger from setbacks,"-Pari Goyal, Gymnast

Introduced to rhythmic gymnastics at a local community center when she was four, Pari quickly fell in love with the grace and discipline the sport demanded. Her passion, fueled by rhythmic gymnastics' unique blend of strength, coordination, flexibility, and apparatus technique, contrasted beautifully with the sport's inherent artistic expression.

As a South Asian athlete in a field traditionally dominated by Europeans, her presence and success have left an indelible mark on the rhythmic gymnastics community, showcasing the sport's universal appeal and inclusivity.

Pari's achievements are as impressive as her commitment. She is the first South Asian rhythmic gymnast to gain a spot on the Canadian National Senior Group and Individual Team and represent Canada on the global stage. She participated in the 2022 World Challenge Cup in Romania and the World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she and her team ranked among the top competitors globally. She is also a Gold Medalist at Elite Canada and a two-time bronze medalist at the Canadian National Championships.

Coaches Daniela Todorova and Mimi Pan of the Olympia Rhythmic Gymnastics Club commend Pari for her exemplary work ethic and passion. "Pari is someone who tackles each challenge head-on, with a positive attitude and a determination to succeed. She exemplifies the spirit of rhythmic gymnastics through her dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence," states Todorova.

Pari's journey has not been without its challenges, including overcoming injuries and navigating the complexities of balancing a rigorous training schedule with academic commitments. Yet, she has managed these obstacles with the same grace and determination she displays in her performances. Sponsorships from organizations like Lift Clinic and Venturelli Canada have provided her with the necessary resources to train and compete at the highest levels.

Despite instances of discrimination, Pari remains steadfast, drawing strength from her family and her deep belief in her abilities. "Gymnastics has taught me the value of hard work, discipline, and perseverance. It has shaped me into someone who dreams big and learns to bounce back stronger from setbacks," Pari reflects.

Looking ahead, Pari aspires to bring home international medals and continue representing Canada with pride. Her dedication to excellence extends beyond the gymnastics arena. With a fervent passion for science, she aspires to pursue an undergraduate degree in Science at UBC. For Pari, life is what you make of it, a philosophy that drives her to seize every opportunity and overcome any obstacle in pursuit of her dreams.

What advice would you give to young athletes who aspire to become professional gymnasts?

My advice to young athletes is to prioritize both physical and mental health. Eat healthily, develop good strength and flexibility, and learn discipline. This will help you excel in both academics and gymnastics.

How many hours do you practice in a day?

I practice for about 4 hours daily, including warm-ups, flexibility and strength training, and many repetitions of my competition routines.

Who inspires you?

I am consistently inspired by my family, friends, and mentors, who encourage me to be the best version of myself. My parents and younger sister, Pavani, are my strongest support pillars.

Who is your favourite rhythmic gymnast?

My favourite rhythmic gymnasts are Alina Harnasko from Belarus and Elvira Krasnobaeva from Bulgaria.
