Thind Properties Ltd. has become synonymous for high-quality and affordability. For over 16 years, this industry pillar has developed some of the leading real estate properties throughout the Lower Mainland. “Quality and affordability are our main factors,” says Daljit Thind, the president and CEO of Thind Properties. “I believe that’s why we are successful.” Thind Properties also has a spotless reputation for architectural innovation and superior customer service. It’s been four years since DARPAN Magazine last spoke to Mr. Thind about his developments and his industrious company has come a long way since then. “We are definitely different from back then,” says Thind, who is currently one of the most successful real estate developers in the Lower Mainland. “We’ve built the company up; it’s at a different level now. Our goal is now to develop 400 to 500 units per year.”
It’s a goal they are certainly achieving. Currently, Thind Properties has 4 major projects underway:
• Skyway Tower
• View 388
• Metro Two
• Cedar Park.
Comprised of more than 400 units altogether, these projects will be completed by the end of the year.
Skyway Tower, a landmark Thind Signature Gold Development, is a 12-storey high-rise, 4-storey midrise in Vancouver. Located in the heart of Norquay neighbourhood, near a convenient skytrain station, this quality high-rise offers breathtaking panoramic views in the city. It also has a number of meticulously selected materials to truly transform the space into a home, including high-end laminated flooring, durable ceramic tiles, textured carpeting, designer lighting and modern stainless steel appliances.
“It is the first high-rise in the area by an Indian developer,” explains Thind. “It’s also the only building in Vancouver that has bricks. It has 150 units and I think it will be completed in September. It’s already
sold out.”
Thind Properties’ Skyway Tower is the first development under the City of Vancouver’s Norquay Village Neighbourhood Centre Program, which aims to transform the centrally-located Norquay neighbourhood into a more vibrant area and increasingthe housing variety.
Skyway Tower is Thind Properties’ first project in this neighbourhood and it will serve as a model for another similar development in the same area, beginning early next year. Thind mentions the new development will also have 150 units but has yet to finalize a name for it.
View 388 is another of Thind’s Signature Developments. Currently under construction, this development has 55 units and is centrally located in the heart of East Vancouver and promises to set a new standard. And like the name suggests, its view will be spectacular. One can also expect the quality finishing and attention-to-detail that Thind Properties is renowned for. “We have developed a name in East Vancouver,” says Thind. “As people can afford the homes we built there.”
Another of their latest projects is Metro Two, which is located in the Burnaby area and is very close to Metrotown. Metro Two makes a great option for first-time home buyers. Like all of Thind Properties developments, Metro Two combines design with practicality and function. This low-rise follows the success of their previous Burnaby development, Metro One, which sold out in record time.
Thind Properties’ fourth ongoing project is Cedar Park, located in Abbotsford. “It’s mostly commercial and a good community plaza,” Thind says of the project.
Besides the quality design and innovation which is a standing feature in all of Thind Properties developments, they also aim to integrate environmentally progressive features.
The company is now a proud member of the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). Together with the CaGBC, Thind Properties is committed to make ‘every building greener’ and keeping with this, Skyway Tower is their first LEED Gold Building. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is a rating system that is recognized as the mark of excellence for green building in over 132 countries.
“LEEd Gold means a quality building,” says Thind. “It’s the most environmental friendly, energy efficient building. There is 40% more energy savings compared to other buildings.”
When he’s not developing real estate, Daljit Thind is also extremely involved in the community and undertakes a number of initiatives. “We do all kinds of events,” says Mr. Thind. “Also a lot of sport events, like Canada Cup International Field Hockey Tournament.” Last year, Thind Properties was the presenting sponsor of the Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA). More recently; they were involved with the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration. Thind Properties is also active in the PICS (Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society) and help raise funds for senior and long-term care homes.
Thind Properties is already anticipating a future project. This major development will be located in the Brentwood Mall Area, which Thind states is one of the two fastest growing neighbourhoods in Burnaby. “It [will be] 5 high-rise complexes,” he says of the project.
For more than a decade, Thind Properties has been fulfilling countless of families dreams’ of homeownership. Now with their numerous new multi-family projects, they’ve also added young professionals to their list. “We [keep] the young generation in mind, so that they can afford a house, that’s our goal,” says Thind.
