Spring’s finally here. Take advantage of the slightly warmer weather and those lovely extra hours of sunlight this season by exploring Vancouver’s beautiful backyard with these fun and affordable day trips!
Othello Tunnels, Fraser Valley
Looking for a slice of history? Check out the Othello tunnels, located east of Hope, BC, and just a two-hour drive from Vancouver. An old series of train tunnels and bridges made by the Canadian Pacific Railway in the 1900s, these magnificent tunnels are a great feat of engineering and well worth a visit! If you’re looking for an educational day out, check out the Britannia Mine Museum which is located just 45 minutes from Vancouver, just off the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Classified as a National Historic Site of Canada, this was once an actual working mine and visitors will be able to see the original equipment, take underground tours and even pan for gold. Outdoorsy types can hike to Dorman Point for spectacular views or check out some of the more challenging trails. Photo: Tourism Bowen Island
Cascade Falls, Mission
For a lovely nature walk, head to Cascade Falls Regional Park in Mission, BC, and walk up to Vancouver’s most scenic and accessible waterfall.
