  • Wedding Story: Jag & Christie

"As a team our goals are to be each other’s support in life by never giving up on one another, no matter how good or bad life can get. We are committed to bringing out the best in each other and achieving our dreams.”

How did you meet?

Christie: Jag and I met at the Malkit Singh concert back in February 2010 dancing to the famous “Tutak tutak tutiya” song.

What do you love most about one another?

Christie: I love his drive to succeed; he is the person that inspires me everyday to keep reaching for the stars. He is my rock in life and the one that supports me through all of my failures and successes.

Jag: I love how she’s always there for me. No matter the situation, I know I can always rely on my best friend/my partner/my wife. She also pushes me and motivates me towards my goals when the going gets tough. It’s fantastic.

Could you share your proposal story?

Jag: On August 25, 2015, I proposed to Christie right at sunset at La Jolla beach in San Diego in a small private area overlooking the water. I had her take a selfie of us with the sunset in the background and when she turned around I had the ring out and asked her if she would do me the honour of spending the rest of her life with me. She said yes right away. I thought she was going to cry tears of joy but instead began to plan out our wedding immediately with the biggest smile on her face.

Describe your wedding day. What was your favourite moment?

A: We had three weddings in the space of a week so there were definitely some interesting moments; one of them was in Mexico where we exchanged our vows and rings overlooking the water and palm trees!  After the ceremony, we all got together to take pictures during the Mexico sunset and then proceeded to party into the night during our reception. It was just perfect.

Christie: Our wedding day was absolutely perfect, it was intimate with 40 of our loved ones there to witness us tie the knot. My favourite moment was reading my vows to Jag because I was able to truly express why he is the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

Jag: It’s hard to pick a favourite moment actually. All of November was a blast – from the weekly events leading up to the sangeet here in B.C. to the amazing week in Mexico. Seeing all our family and friends there was amazing and of course watching Christie come down the aisle was breathtaking. However, if I had to choose one, it would be our first dance together in Mexico. The weather was beautiful, our friends and family were waving sparklers, one of our favourite songs playing, and her and I looking at each other while dancing. It was awesome.

Could you tell us about your reception?

Christie: Our reception decoration was inspired by our favourite soccer team, FC Barcelona. It was outside on the patio in Mexico, overlooking the ocean and stars. Some of the most significant parts of our reception were: the speeches our family and friends gave, the mother-son dance, and the moment my dad asked me to join him in the father-daughter dance.

Can you describe your outfits?

Christie: Our outfits were picked out by my mother-in-law who has a keen sense of style. She coordinated the colour scheme, jewellery, and outfits so that they all complimented each other.

Where did you honeymoon?

Jag: Since we are both soccer fans, we decided to do a three-week Europe trip travelling to seven different cities and watching five football matches; it was only fitting that we finished off our trip in the city we fell in love with, Barcelona.

What are your goals as a couple?

Christie: As a team our goals are to be each other’s support in life by never giving up on one another, no matter how good or bad life can get. We are committed to bringing out the best in each other and achieving our dreams with our company BollyRoots Fitness.

What are the strengths of your marriage?

Jag: We have always believed in strong communication and complete honesty. With this understanding we make an effort everyday to grow as a couple and work through conflict together. Our goals and dreams in life have always aligned which we feel has made our marriage so much stronger.

If you could provide any advice to other married couples, what would it be?

Jag: The main piece of advice would be to not jump into marriage thinking there is an easy way out. Understanding that marriage will require compromise, commitment and communication will only help in the long run, so find things to do together that help you grow as a couple.

‘Are you seeing anyone?’ they ask. ‘When are you moving out?’ ‘No ring on your finger yet?’ ‘Do I hear the pitter-patter of little feet in the near future?’ No matter how personal or private these matters may be, it doesn’t stop curious friends, family, coworkers – and sometimes even strangers – from having an opinion on the optimal time for these life changing events to occur.

Sunam’s signature style stems from its usage of spectacular lighting, and Kainth and his team usually eliminate a venue’s white lighting, and replace it with rich hues of fuchsia pink, gold, blue or purple to name a few.  In addition, Kainth customizes each event with his clients and finds that most brides want the event décor to reflect their outfits.
