Q: How did you meet?
Gagan: We first met during grade eight summer holidays, through my good friend Snowy, who is also Gurp’s cousin. Snowy asked me to come to Abbotsford to hang out with her and her cousin Gurp on their farm. After the summer was over, we lost contact with each other.

During those years, we would occasionally ask Snowy what the other person was up to, and eventually Snowy decided to reintroduce us as she always felt that we would make a good couple. When we met nine years later, it didn’t feel like we were strangers to one another. We clicked right away, there was no awkwardness.

Q: What do you love most about one another?
Gagan: What I love the most about him is his smile. I also love how I can just be myself around him, he makes me feel safe.
Gurp: What I love about Gagan the most is that she’s a very supportive and positive person. She is an amazing cook. You know how they say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, which was definitely true for me.

Q: Could you share your proposal story?
Gurp: It was very important for me to seek permission from Gagan’s dad for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Once I had her dad’s permission, I began to plan the proposal.

The night started with a nice romantic dinner at the revolving restaurant in Vancouver, followed by dessert at one of her favourite places near the English Bay. My plan was to propose by the seawall, so the next step was to convince her to go for a walk with me in her 5” heels. As we were walking towards the spot where I planned to propose, I began playing some of our favourite songs on my phone. Finally, when the moment came, I was a little nervous, but I knew she was 100 per cent the right girl for me. I went down on one knee and proposed. She said “YES” right away, with a huge smile on her face.

Q: Describe your wedding day. What was your favourite moment?
Gagan: Our wedding day was just perfect. The weather was amazing and everything was on schedule, other than waking up at 3 am and finding out that my sweet groom’s family toilet-papered our house and saran-wrapped mine and my sister-in-law’s car. It was very nice to see all our family and friends be a part of our celebrations.

There were so many special moments throughout the day, but one of my favourite moments from that day was when I arrived at my in-laws house and my mother-in-law was playing the dhol (drum) to welcome me. All together it was a perfect day.

Q: Could you tell us about your reception?
A: We wanted our reception to be memorable not only for us, but for our guests as well. The décor was elegant and classy; there was great entertainment and the dance floor was always packed.

Q: Can you describe your outfits?
Gagan: On the wedding day, I wore a traditional red lehenga with gold embroidery, and Gurp wore a cream-coloured achkan with red embroidery. We kept the wedding day outfits classy and elegant. For the reception, I wore an elegant pink lehenga with sliver embroidery, and Gurp wore a suit of a really nice shade of blue, with a hint of pink for the tie and pocket square.

Q: What are your goals as a couple?
A:To secure ourselves financially for the future and travel to our top five places we both want to visit, and start a family in the future.

Q: What are the strengths of your marriage?
A: Communication and honesty are the two main components that make our relationship strong.

Q: If you could provide any advice to other married couples, what would it be?
A: Life is full of ups and downs; support one another not only through the good times, but the hard times as well.
