Summer Weekend Getaways from Vancouver

By Tarana Rana, 20 May, 2019 06:59 PM

Make the most of your weekends this summer by heading out of Vancouver and exploring the rest of beautiful BC. Here are five city escapes you should check out.

Pack your bags! Summer is the perfect time to take off on the weekends and explore some hidden gems in your own backyard. Here are some incredible BC destinations just a stone’s throw away from Vancouver.

    Explore Country Views in Ashcroft

Ashcroft Village is the ideal place to head out to if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. This small town nestled along the banks of the Thompson River offers a ton of hiking trails, fishing and walking tours in the summer. Another major attraction is the Sundance Guest Ranch, which offers a horseback riding adventure. You’ll explore breathtaking country views on horseback and their daily rates include accommodation, meals and access to the Ranch facilities, such as their games rooms, heated pool, massage parlor and more.

Island Hop around the Sunshine Coast

With its quaint communities and stunning seaside views, BC’s Sunshine Coast is another summer ideal destination. Start your trip at Gibsons, a picturesque seaside village. Explore the quaint shops, enjoy water activities or check out some local hikes. Next, you could head out to Sechelt, an artistic community, only 25 minutes away. Check out the galleries, try your hand at salmon fishing or enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. For avid hikers, be sure to try the Sunshine Coast Trail for some amazing scenic views located in the Powell River area.

    Discover New Wines in Nanaimo

Head up to Nanaimo to explore an up-and-coming BC wine country contender. Nanaimo is slowly making a name for itself in the wine community. If you’re headed up there for a wine-fuelled weekend, be sure to visit these wineries, which are near the harbor: Millstone Estate Winery, 40 Knots Vineyard and Estate. You could also opt for the popular Nanaimo to Cowichan Valley Wine Tour offered by Canadian Craft Tours. It’s a six-hour tour to three wineries that leaves from downtown Nanaimo.

Go Glamping in Style at Pender Island

Part of the Gulf Islands, Pender Island is a guaranteed good time, with beaches, kayaking, trails and more. For an unforgettable experience, spend a weekend glamping at Woods on Pender, where you can rent out rustic cabins or better yet, beautiful retro airstreams. Each airstream comes fully equipped with a fully kitchen and other luxuries like cable, Apple TV and Wi-Fi. If you’re looking to truly unwind, there’s even a massage parlor on site.

Channel your Inner-Yogi at Bowen Island

Looking for a yoga retreat but don’t want to go too far? Head down to Bowen Island, a quick 30-minute ferry ride away from Vancouver, and check into Nectar Yoga B&B where you can enjoy daily yoga in the mornings under a geodesic dome. Accommodation on site is available which includes tasty vegetarian breakfasts. After your morning yoga, you can also enjoy a session in their Finnish Sauna, opt for an in-room massage or rent a scooter to explore the rest of Bowen Island.
