Mix of contemporary & traditional by Ritu Beri

Darpan News Desk, 19 Oct, 2019 12:42 AM

Ritu Beri’s latest collection, Ferghana Fantasy is a mélange of two great cultures – India and Uzbekistan, representing India’s Khadi and Uzbekistan’s Ikat.

Uzbekistan plays muse to Ritu Beri’s latest collection, Ferghana Fantasy. Beri is the Cultural and Tourism Ambassador of Uzbekistan in India, appointed by the Ministry of Tourism in Uzbekistan. This was in recognition of the stellar contribution made by her towards bringing two countries together by way of her fusing cultures in her clothes line.

Continuing with what she does best, blending cultures and traditions through her work, Beri’s collection is inspired by Uzbekistan. The Collection takes its name from the land of Ferghana, a region in Uzbekistan traditionally famous and known for its Ikat (khanatlas). Till today, much of the Ikat weaving in the Ferghana Valley is done in private homes, keeping the age-old tradition alive.

The collection, which Beri presented at the Delhi Times Fashion Week, is a mélange of two great cultures – India and Uzbekistan, representing India’s Khadi and Uzbekistan’s Ikat. The outfits are plush, magnificent, sprawling and a delightful mixture of contemporary and traditional silhouettes, matched with jewellery by Turquoise Jewels by Nanu Puri.
