Feeling Blue

BY MRINALINI SUNDAR, 29 Jan, 2020 10:38 PM

9 ways to style the Pantone colour of the year, Classic Blue.

What’s common between blueberries, an indigo kurta, the silent ocean, the evening sky, and a customized suit? They are all in the colour blue which also happens to be the Pantone Colour of the Year, 2020. Classic blue also known as cobalt or the royal blue – is powerful, subtle, calm, composed, yet not too flashy or overpowering. Style it the right way for a confident, refreshing and unfiltered message.

The other feature about the colour is that it is neither feminine nor masculine in nature and thus is dependable. With the designers flooding the runways and celebs sporting the colour too, Classic Blue needs to be in your wardrobe this coming year.

Here are nine ways to style the sapphire colour in 2020:

    SUIT UP
If minimal is your style, wear a blue customized suit. Pair it with hoops or embellished studs, nude makeup, a messy bun and sport a pair of white sneakers – you will be nailing it for the casual evening party. If suits are too formal for you, replace it with a jumpsuit. Playful, sporty, and effortless – this is an ultimate outfit that can fit any event.

    DRESS IT UP
A V-neck dress, a midi-dress or a formal office dress, or a plain-drop waist dress – anything that you wear in the sapphire blue is going to grab eyeballs. With all the top brands stalking up on the colour blue, it is not difficult to give your wardrobe a special twist.

    SKIRT FANTASTIC
While we talked about dresses, jackets, and accessories, a blue skirt, in metallic classic blue would be a perfect addition to your wardrobe. A pleated skirt, or a long flowy maxi skirt, flared skirt, ruffle skirt, or a divided blue skirt are some wardrobe-essentials. Our go-to top is either a plain white or black tee with chic footwear and voila – you could not look any more perfect.

    KNIT PICKS
The easiest and less time-consuming of all, wear a pair of denim and blue knitwear, sweater or a turtleneck. The classic blue can do wonders during the winter. Sport a beanie, cute danglers, minimal makeup, and boots. You could also throw in a blazer to complete the look.

    THE EXTRAS
Cobalt coloured accessories could include a lot of things – earrings, bags, neckpiece, pendants, phone covers, watch, belts, bracelets, rings, and nail colour. Geometrically-designed pendants and earrings are a good start when it comes to jewellery selection. A hobo-style handbag, cross body strap bags, a cool clutch or a backpack are some of your options that can come in handy for any occasion. A simple blue-strapped watch can also be a fashion statement of its own. If you want to play the blue game well, opt for a blue cover phone and paint your nails blue for maximum effect. All of these could pump up your look but don’t go overboard with the colour is our suggestion.

    PUFF THE MAGIC
Shake things up a little this winter. Wear a big, bright puffer jacket which will keep you warm and make you look cool at the same time. Both short and long forms of the jacket are perfect especially when we are walking into the winter months. You could wear anything casual underneath – from a dress to denim or a skirt. The cobalt jacket can be a sight for sore eyes during the dipping temperature.

    FOR THE SPORTY ONES
It could be yoga or track pants accompanied by a sports bra, but sport them in classic blue and your workout is going to be so much more energetic and lightweight. Go for the ones that are a mix of cotton and polyester which will be soft, stretchy and incredibly comfortable. Get some workout in style now!

    SHOE DAZZLE
Turn your shoe collection upside down with blue-inspired boots, stilettoes, flats, ballerinas, sandals, loafers, pumps or sneakers. Our perfect pick is a black dress, blue pumps, and diamond earrings. The energetic blue shoes can add that much-needed oomph to your look.

    ONE FOR THE HEAD
Even though this falls under the accessory section – headbands or hair accessories in blue are cute and add zing to the overall look. We have several options when it comes to headbands: it could be just a plain blue headband, or for something fancier pick one made in velvet. However, we always like a little jazz and opt for headbands with crystal embellishments, pearls, motifs or beads. Wear the little piece of accessory that screams chic.
