  • Cinema Secrets: Revealing backstage secrets with star signature looks
Indian cinema has been an aspiring platform for millions, as no body can disagree with the popularity of Bollywood and Bollywood beauties around the world. Glamorous, feminine, and sexy, the Indian celebrities have inspired many who do whatever it takes to imitate their favorite one; their looks have been recreated both in eastern and modern or westernized ways.

It’s all about enhancing the best feature, looking novel and truly glamorous. Indian cinema, the largest film producing industry, is full of music, emotional dramas, colorful costumes and above all, beauty icons. It’s fashionable, yet traditional.

In this industry, you will find classical and contemporary visions all happening at the same time. With a not so fancy backstage, it’s a pure fantasy land amid a colorful backdrop and stars shining with ethereal looks.

With onscreen glam, Bollywood celebrities carry it well off screen too. Their looks are recreated from head to toe by their fans and their styling becomes a fashion statement. Truly B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L Ashwaria Rai, and ravishing Rani Mukarjee have altered the fashion in makeup. Recreate the makeup looks worn by these Indian cinema-leading ladies and you’ll be in the spotlight, like these stars.

Look Like A Star

Screen Diva Ashwaria Rai

Claimed the most attractive female in the world, this screen diva and past Miss World, was the first Indian actress featured on the cover of Time magazine; she is currently one of the faces for L’Oreal Paris. Her dazzling beauty and poised and professional attitude, has taken her from Bollywood to the stages of Hollywood. This Bollywood beauty’s stunning appearance on red carpet looks are all about SHIMMER and SHINE.

Wear It:

Face : Think flawless, velvety, glowing with perfectly highlighted features. Choose a foundation that gives enough coverage, without looking caked on. Remember to blend well. Try Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation and pat a concealer lightly under eyes, covering any blue/grey undertones. An orange/peach concealer, like Make Up For Ever # 350 from the High Definition line, works well; just remember to highlight the inner corners and it will brighten the eye area.

Gently dust a translucent loose powder mixed with a sheer face shimmer or use a pressed powder with a little shimmer. Mineralize Skin Finishing Powder from MAC, in the Medium shade, is a good choice. That will give your skin a fresh and healthy glow.

Use NARS rouge on cheeks, in Orgasm; this beautiful pink peach tone with light reflecting effects, will bring the glow, yet keeping the hues under control.

Eye: Think bright, shimmery and defined. Prep the eyes with an eye primer like Two Faced eye primer; it is a clear smooth textured product that will give your eye design a good base, at the same time, keeping the shimmer look shiny and ensuring shadow longevity. Use shiny, not sparkly, silver toned eye shadow on the lids and slowly blend it towards the crease from the lash line. Next, blend a copper tone matte eye shadow into the crease and pull the color slightly towards inside the corner of the eyes and vaguely elongating it from outside the edge too. Create a high arched brow by coloring it in from the arc and outwards and than filling the inside corner.

Remember to brush out any excess.

This screen diva is famous for her magical eyes. So keep the magic going, by lining the water line or inner rim of the eye, with a black kohl pencil; pull out from the outer corner out and upwards when applying the pencil. Dab a grayish green shimmery shadow under the lower lash line, after adding few individual lashes for flare, from the middle of the upper lash line and outwards.

Lip: Blend a pink brown or rose toned cream textured lip color on the lips, after it is lined with a lip liner applied as close to your natural lip line, as possible. Don’t exaggerate the shape or color, but give your pout a bit more fullness.

MAC lipstick in Pink Cocoa and Rimmel lip liner in Addiction, is a good combination; top it with an Estée Lauder gloss from the Michael Kors’ collection in Starlet Rose to add to the charisma.

Queen Of Bollywood Rani Mukerjee

The transformation of Rani from the beginning of her career to date, is obvious and has made her the Queen of the glamorous show business world. It’s all about the alluring and intriguing EYES when it comes to her makeup style. Her makeup artists have given her a new color palette – it’s all about rose hues dipped in a bronze shimmer chocolate and the hallmark of Bollywood beauty, Kajol (eye kohl) which is smudged on the top and bottom lash line.

Wear It:

Face: Start off by using Prep and Prime Skin from MAC on your cleansed and hydrated skin. A matte finish is the key for this look. Try Mat Velvet PLUS from Make Up For Ever with a foundation brush, instead of a sponge to give the skin a velvet finish and smooth texture.

For a light to medium skin tone, bring out your cheekbones and contour and sculpt the face by using Mat Bronze # 2 from Make Up For Ever or use a contour powder in one shade darker than your skin tone. Set the makeup with a matte loose powder. Use a rose color blush, with a hint of shimmer – just enough to bring the radiance to the cheeks.

Eye: A renowned makeup artist designs Rani’s new makeup trend: soft smoky eyes that bring all the attention to her hazel peepers. Prep the eyelid with MAC’s Paint Bare Canvas to better hold the smoky layered eye shadows. Line the eyes with a Kohl pencil in black and smudge along the lash line using a small chisel brush. Apply a medium tone burgundy bronze colored shadow across the lid blending upwards, just past the crease. Highlight under the arch of the brow with a matte cream color shadow and blend towards the crease.

Contour, just under the fold of the eye, by using a dark brown or chocolate matte shadow. For a diffused highlight, use a matte cream color shadow and apply it under the brown shadow on the lower lash line, starting from the inner corner and stretching it up to the temples. Dab carbon along the lower lash line to enhance the eye.

To deepen the line slightly and extend to the outside corner, dip your black kohl pencil in MAC’s Blacktrack Fluidline being careful to avoid giving it an angled form. Add falsies for an even more intense look.

Lip: To tone down lips, use a creamy nude color with a hint of rose like Lips Myself or tinted lipglass in ‘Naked Frost’. A beauty powder to try for a crème de luscious skin tone is Personal Style by MAC .
