A vintage spring of sorts

Are you ready to spring into action?

Wake up and smell the roses – you know, get a whole new perspective on life. Crawl out of your proverbial wintery hole, and join the world of the living. This spring, there are many vintage collections to be sported, many fashionable avenues to be discovered – they are waiting to greet you in a new light.

Are you ready to spring into action? Men, we will start with you this time around. Shall we?

We will mix things up a bit this spring, and talk about footwear first. Have you heard of boots by Canadian brand, Viberg? Sticking with the vintage style this season, Viberg puts out a gnarly piece of footwear. Leather goodness – like a friend from the 1940s – paired with a fitted denim and a white button down shirt is steaming hot. On a cooler spring time night, hop into a leather jacket, and paint the town red with the woman of your dreams. The town will be talking about you for weeks to come.

If you are inspired by an early 1980s look, you may want to check out a pair of kicks by Native Shoes. Cool, spring colours such as sage green or baby blue paired with outrageous lines and strikes really make a statement. After all, don’t your tired feet deserve the very best? Native Shoes are best to be worn on nights and weekends where you are allowed to be limitless.

Somewhere in between you will find men’s feet snuggled into day slippers. Yes, this has a 1970s vibe to it. These day slippers – cousins to the ones of days of old – will be bejeweled with faces of animals and aquatic creatures. To be so bold with your footwear, be more proverbially tight-lipped with your clothing; a nice tailored khaki and a polo shirt would do just fine.

Let us revisit the white button down shirt for a moment, and pair it with other articles of clothing. Ah, the classic white button down shirt – so versatile – so flowy so … spring. Think monochromatic this season; pair a white collared shirt with a khaki-coloured cashmere sweater, and darker-coloured trousers. Here is where you may implement the day slipper, adding a pop of creativity and colour to your outfit.

As for jewellery, men are dropping the stud earrings, dropping the rings and layered bracelets, and going au natural this season. Trust me when I say that bare is better.

And as for a fresh cut, it will take a real man to buzz a mohawk into his skull. Edgy and unique, okay?

Ladies, you are up. You will be wandering in a vintage wonderland, too. We will start with the top and work our way down.

The 1960s style is back and you will thank the fashion gods. How do you feel about pillbox hats with flowery veils attached to them? Pair that with a wool suit and ballet flats – bam, you have a weekend outfit for all occasions.

If you really want to stand out in a crowd, add a solid-coloured WANT Les Essentiels bag into the mix.

Sticking with outlandish clothing, let us go way back … to the 70s … 1770s, that is. Think Marie Antoinette, but sexier. Why don’t you sport a Rococo style skirt with a tight fitted, plain blouse and a messy bun? This vintage-inspired look will be best topped off with a
    kinky-looking black high heel.

If you are into cool, calm and casual, the 1980s are knocking on your door. Multicoloured track suits are making their way back into closets across the globe.

Do not wear one of these into the office, trust me. Because it is still slightly chilly out, you may wear this over your business outfit, or out on weekends with a chunky belt. While you are at it, pink legwarmers and high heels top you off.

Your purses will be nature-inspired – think snake skin and birch – mother nature is coming back with a vengeance. You are paying homage to a new time, a new world, a new season. Spring is here!

And as for nail polish and your hands – much like the guys, stay nude here. Lack of jewellery is best, and let your polish be skin toned. Less is more when radiance of mother earth is all around you. Are you ready? Set, shop … spring!
