Help your children become better readers

  • Help your children become better readers
Studies show that kids who keep reading all summer long do better when they return to school in the fall, and avoid what teachers call the “Summer Slide.” When children read what they enjoy, they learn to love reading and become better readers. Help your children become better readers by signing them up for the Summer Reading Club at Surrey Libraries.

Meet The Hendrickson family - Jacob (age 8), Ivy (age 5) and mom Kelly. They joined the Summer Reading Club (SRC) at City Centre Library on the first day of registration (June 14). Jake has been a member since he was 2 and Ivy since she was a baby. Jake joined because he ‘loves reading books all the time’ and he is a budding writer who has authored almost 70 books!  Mom Kelly says “Ivy never stops reading” and remarks how Ivy’s reading has improved since they joined the club.  Both Jake and Ivy look forward to a summer of reading. Together they plan to read almost 100 books before school starts in fall.

Joining the club is fun, free and easy. If you haven’t signed up yet, join the thousands of Surrey kids that have and visit your favourite library to get your reading log, collect stickers, enter contests, win prizes, and attend some exciting programs!
