You don’t have to travel far this summer! Enjoy free and low-cost outdoor opportunities right here in Surrey while having fun at various parks and activities. Here’s 10 ways to make the most of a “staycation” this summer.
1. Water sports and outdoor pools
Be active on the water and kayak, paddle board, and canoe at rivers, lakes, and oceanfront parks! See Surrey’s Blueways River Map for launch points. Enjoy free public swimming at outdoor pools this summer too! View the public swim schedule and learn about the safety measures before you visit.
2. Go for a walk
It’s time to stretch your legs and get some fresh air! Step outside with friends or family and enjoy the many different walking routes, cushioned walking tracks and nature trails Surrey has to offer.
3. Spray parks and playgrounds
Cool off on those hot summer days by heading to one of the City’s spray parks. You’ll go home feeling refreshed and relaxed after a fun day spent in the water! Children can also have fun at the playground, making it a one-stop destination for the whole family.
4. Enjoy a day at the beach
When it’s a hot summer day, head to Crescent Beach for some sunshine with your friends and family. Walk the pier, enjoy a picnic and take in the views. Best of all: you can also catch some stunning sunsets at the end of your beach day!
5. Bike trails and BMX tracks
Ready to ride? Check out bike trails and BMX destinations that are sure to keep you rolling back for more! Surrey offers seven bike parks with tracks, dirt jumps and trails to suit all abilities. Grab your bike, wear a helmet, and enjoy a ride from dawn until dusk.
6. Picnics and BBQs

7. Tennis and pickleball courts
Surrey is home to 65 public outdoor tennis courts and 54 pickle ball courts that are conveniently located across 27 parks! Get your racket, enjoy a game with your family and friends. Playing tennis and pickle ball is a great way to stay active outdoors.
8. Look for Birds & Big Trees in Nature
Adventure awaits! On your next forest walk, explore more than 100km of nature trails, scope out world-class bird watching opportunities and be amongst some of the largest trees that Surrey has to offer. It’s guaranteed to be a relaxing escape from the busy city.
9. Check out Public Art
Explore Surrey's public art and find interactive and illuminated contemporary sculptures, engraved boulders, mosaics, and much more! Get creative and do a photoshoot in front of the public art too. 10. Go Fishing
Experience the excitement of fishing at Green Timbers Lake, Brownsville Bar Park and Surrey Wharf! Everyone ages 16 years and older must possess a license to fish in Surrey. Make sure to check what type of license you need and keep a printed copy with you when you go.
