  • BC Scientists Develop Lifesaving Diagnostic Tool for Lung Cancer Patients
An exciting breakthrough in cancer research is being spearheaded by BC scientists. This study, being led by the Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI), has developed software which can accurately categorize lung cancer lesions as being malignant or benign during preliminary CT scans. So remarkable is this discovery that it is being published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

These new life-saving diagnostic tools to treat lung cancer patients has expanded on the factors involved in lung cancer screening and analysis. These factors include identifying nodule size and location and address the age, sex and family history of the patients.

This method of screening and treating high-risk lung cancer patients is a remarkable breakthrough in cancer research and can be expected to have significant global influences. It will simplify and decrease the time needed to accurately identify lesions and treatment options. A major discovery by BC scientists and a win for everyone involved in the fight against cancer.
