An apple a day boosts sexual pleasure among women

Darpan News Desk IANS, 07 Oct, 2014 10:53 AM
  • An apple a day boosts sexual pleasure among women

For women, having an apple a day can enhance sexual pleasure, reports fascinating research.

After analysing 731 Italian women aged 18 to 43, researchers found that women who ate more apples on a regular basis reported overall satisfaction with their sex lives.

The participants were asked to complete the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) that included 19 questions about their sexual activities including frequency and overall satisfaction.

The team from Santa Chiara Regional Hospital in Trento, Italy, found that eating an apple a day was linked with higher FSFI scores.

"The reason may lie in the compound phloridzin which is found in apples and is similar to the female sex hormone estradiol that plays a crucial role in sexual arousal," researchers noted.

Apples also have polyphenols and antioxidants that can stimulate blood flow to the genitalia.

The paper appeared in the journal Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
