This Winter is Anything but Dull!

  • This Winter is Anything but Dull!
This season belongs to bright hues, metallics, the girl-next-door and classic looks that have been sighted right off the runways by the works and inspirations of Victoria Beckham, Jason Wu, Anna Sui, Christian Dior, Prada and many more amazing designers.

It’s always nice to see some new techniques and applications being combined with classic looks. There are many reflections of cool and icy tones that have caught the attention of individuals in all age groups.

You would not be able to say winter without the fabulous smoky eye – a makeup masterpiece! Although the smoky eye always makes an appearance throughout all the seasons, it is more popular in the cooler months. However, you don’t need to stick to the traditional black shades or in this case, any dark colour. Play it up by adding some bright greens, blues, pinks and oranges. And if you’re feeling really lively, line your eyes with a coloured eyeliner.

Product Snatch: Bobbi Brown Metallic long wear cream shadow, it won’t smudge or crease and it’s waterproof. The colour is suitably pigmented.

Quick Tip: If you have dark under eye circles, stay away from dark colours especially browns and purples. To brighten up a smoky eye, avoid bringing the shadow all the way underneath the eye. Another way to brighten it up is to highlight the tear duct with a light shade and bring it up and over, blending into the rest of your shadow.

Metallic eye shadows will be making a fierce statement. The beauty about this formula is when light hits the lids; the angle and shape are highlighted creating an attractive countenance. It would be most flattering during the evening hours as it can be a bit much for daywear. Rim your eyes to add more pizzazz – it’s a show-stopper!

Quick Tip: To minimize colour fall out when rimming your eyes, apply concealer and foundation last so you can clean up any fallen eye shadow; resulting in a clean and polished look.

Be prepared to see an array of red lips. Another dominating look throughout the years, but this time any shade goes as long as it’s bold. For longer lasting wear, put a primer on first and then fill in your lips with a good lip liner. You can wear it matte for a more pop art affect or go glossy for a sultry look.

Quick Tip: If you want the main focus to be your lips, then go easy on your eyes, keeping them neutral and light. Line the water line with white eyeliner.

The girl-next-door, sporty look will be a player in the trend game. Expect to see lightly contoured cheekbones, delicate bronzing and rosy cheeks. Nude and neutral lips, dusty pink eye shadows and a little mascara will go a long way in highlighting your natural beauty. Work with your skin tone and find neutral colours that work and flow harmoniously with your undertones. This is a perfect daytime look that is easy to do. An absolute time saver for the days you’ve hit snooze one too many times. An all-time favourite look of mine is going for a natural monochromatic look, keeping everything in the same tone and shade.

Product Snatch: Too Faced Naked Eye Soft and Sexy Eye Shadow Collection is perfect for creating natural looks. They’re a combination of nine matte and soft shimmer shadows to work with. For flawless application, you can follow the three “Get the Look” cards included in the palette.

Quick Tip: Pull back your hair and showcase your facial structure. It’s very sleek and allows for a refined finish.

The classic winged eyeliner provides the ‘it factor’ and makeup artists around the globe have done a fine job creating different variations of it. Play around with the thickness and the lengths of the wing. There are so many different ways to wear this but it will come down to personal preferences and comfort levels.

Product Snatch: MAC’s eyeshadow Rice Paper is a great base and when applied to the tear duct it emphasizes your eye shape.

Quick Tip: A style that is becoming more popular is a thinner tight line leading into a thicker outer wing creating a dramatic appearance. Wear it with a killer pair of lashes and go for a 1950’s glam look.

Don’t let the chilly, wet conditions damper your spirits. You can look amazing rocking these easy-to-do styles and be the centre-of-attention to all your events and festivities!.
