Shay Kuebler Radical System Art (RSA) presents Telemetry loop

Shadbolt Centre for the Arts (Studio Theatre) 6450 Deer Lake Ave21 Nov '19 to 23 Nov '19 @ 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Shay Kuebler Radical System Art (RSA) presents Telemetry loop, the re-imagination of RSA’s most successful work, Telemetry.

A compelling and remarkably inventive stage performer, Shay Kuebler creates hybrid works that combine dance, martial arts and theatricality. In Telemetry he imagined the body as an antenna and satellite for sound, energy and memory, a body that translates and transmits that information into visceral physicality and precise movement. His raw, acrobatic language animated an energetic dance pollinated by jazz, swing, tap dance and house music. Technique is driven by instinct; order and chaos are in harmony.

Now, Telemetry loop’s 360 immersive experience pushes the audience further and digs deeper into its artistic concepts. One of the most direct reception/ transmission cycles from an audial signal is dance. Telemetry loop looks to transmit the art forms of bebop footwork, swing and tap dance with House and Contemporary dance, supported by a live-interactive environment of light, sound and video.

This environment is controlled by a singular source, returning to concepts around radio sciences and the idea of a control tower. In Telemetry loop, the tap dancer is the control tower – directly controlling and affecting the lighting, video and sound throughout the piece.

Shay Kuebler was born in 1984 and raised in Edmonton, and began his artistic development at the age of 5 with dramatic arts at Stage Polaris Theatre Academy, and with martial arts in Shito-Ryu Karate. His early artistic growth would lead to dance and a versatile background in Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Ballet. He continues to develop and further his artistic practice through travel and intensive study, which has included study in music, theatre, dance and martial arts in Brazil, Japan and China.

As a performer, he has worked in the fields of Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary Dance, Circus Arts, Film and Theatre. He most recently performed in Polaris with Crystal Pite’s company Kidd Pivot, in London and New York City, and is currently touring Monumental with The Holy Body Tattoo and God Speed You! Black Emperor.

In 2014, he founded his own company - Shay Kuebler Radical System Art.
