The Teen Shakespeare Program presents Romeo and Juliet

Performance Works Outdoor Stage28 Jul '17 to 12 Aug '17 @ 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
  • The Teen Shakespeare Program presents Romeo and Juliet
This summer, Carousel Theatre for Young People’s annual Teen Shakespeare Program takes on the quintessential tragedy of star-crossed lovers in Romeo and Juliet. Teen love has never felt as grand as it does in the timeless tale of passion, prejudice and the risks we take to overcome it.

The annual Teen Shakespeare Program stages outdoor, all ages productions on beautiful Granville Island with a festival-style village, concession, and activities for the kids! Admission is FREE but seating is limited, with premium seating available in advance for $5 per seat.

Actor, director and theatre educator Mike Stack leads a talented cast of 15 teen actors, ages 13-18. Romeo and Juliet features 17-year-old Finnegan Howes and 14-year-old Maggie Stewart in the title roles, along with Atticus Cseh, Aijaz Karim, Amitai Heyl, Bronwen Bente, Daisy Hulme, Fiona Goldberg, Fox Mutual, Julia Pante, Lucy Layton, Pascale LaRiviere, Saige MacKenzie, Sofia Day, and Simon Wilcox.

ABOUT THE TEEN SHAKESPEARE PROGRAM: For 27 summers, Carousel Theatre for Young People’s Teen Shakespeare Program has been providing pre-professional theatre training to teens 13-18 in an intensive six-week program. During the program, teen actors are treated as professional artists and receive training in voice, movement, and text analysis toward a fully-staged public performance. The program provides an opportunity for participants to enhance their performing abilities and further their development as emerging artists while providing the community with free and accessible theatre.

Over the years, many participants have gone on to grace some of Canada’s top stages including the Stratford Festival, Canstage, The Belfry Theatre, Bard on the Beach, and the Arts Club Theatre Company.
