After dazzling Arts Club audiences in February 2016, actress Patricia Cano returns to her role in The (Post) Mistress, touring the Lower Mainland January 7 – February 4, 2017.
Cano plays the charming and effervescent Marie-Louise, a postal worker in the fictional town of Lovely who seems to know everything about everyone—and is eager to share all the gossip with you. A fun and quirky one-woman show, The (Post) Mistress is a uniquely Canadian cabaret full of music and charm.
“The (Post) Mistress is a beautiful musical about the size of the human spirit,” says director John Cooper. “It celebrates transcendence and resilience in the human experience, and Tomson creates remarkably fresh imagery that informs and frames both the story and the music. Our two actors, Patricia Cano and Cailin Stadnyk, will play the postmistress in different performances, but each brings an immense warmth and talent to this vibrant character.”
Performance Schedule: Patricia Cano plays Marie-Louise in all performances except the matinee performances on January 21 in Surrey and January 28 in Coquitlam, when Cailin Stadnyk performs in the role.
Patricia Cano has a longstanding working relationship with Tomson Highway, having performed in his world premiere of Rose and four other productions of The (Post) Mistress alongside Highway on piano: Peterborough’s Ode’min Giizis Festival of Indigenous Arts (2012), Le Théâtre Du Nouvel-Ontario and Ottawa’s National Arts Centre co-production (2012), Saskatoon’s Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre (2015), and the bilingual production from Pleiades Theatre and Théâtre français de Toronto at Toronto’s Berkley Street Theatre (2016).
