The Cultch presents Jabberwocky

York Theatre06 Feb '18 to 17 Feb '18 @ 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
  • The Cultch presents Jabberwocky
The Cultch is thrilled to present The Old Trout Puppet Workshop’s brand new puppet extravaganza Jabberwocky, playing from Feb 6- 17 at the York Theatre.

“Beware the Jabberwock!” Such is the frantic warning inscribed to us in Lewis Carroll’s mysterious nonsense-poem Jabberwocky… but what monster does it actually mean?  Is it fanged or flapping, furry or finned, ferocious or formless? Is it outside our bedroom door even now, drooling? Or is it already amongst us?” Using Lewis Carroll’s Jabberwocky as the impetus to examine the things that keep us all awake at night, the Trouts dive deep into the abyss of our own frailty with a show that The Globe and Mail called “inspired.”

Jabberwocky incorporates an intricate form of two dimensional puppetry inspired by the toy theatres popular in salons of Lewis Carroll's time, combined with other pointlessly anachronistic Victorian theatrical inventions like the scrolling panorama and shadowgraphy, performed by a crack team of puppeteer ninjas dressed as rabbits.

The latest from the Trouts makes a Vancouver stop before it wings its way across the seas for its grand world tour, including stops in Granada and Malaga, Spain, and Lyon, France.
