Summer Specials at Science World

    What's happening at Science World this summer? Lots! Join us for extended evenings on Tuesdays at Twilight Tuesdays, Science World After Dark, Sensory Friendly Mornings, exciting talks and more. Some of these events are FREE or offer reduced rates.

    Science World After Dark
    Bring your inner kid out to play at Science World After Dark! Once a month, adults aged 19+ explore the building and enjoy drinks, food, music, exhibits and more. Immerse yourself in adult-focused programming featuring special guest speakers, OMNIMAX® films and one-of-a-kind activities. Come and experience the joy of science (and maybe even learn something new).
    Dates: July 18 and August 15, 2019
    Tickets: Start at $28

    Twilight Tuesdays
    Science World is open late on Tuesday evenings for more summer science fun during Twilight Tuesdays! Enjoy extended hours and reduced rates from 5pm–9pm every Tuesday throughout the summer. Explore Science World’s exhibits, catch a larger-than-life OMNIMAX film or check out our feature exhibition, A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature!
    Date: Every Tuesday in July and August
    Time: 5:00pm–9pm
    Tickets: $10 or $12

    Sensory Friendly Mornings
    Sensory Friendly Mornings are exclusive events for individuals and families who live with autism or sensory processing differences. Guests can enjoy Science World exhibits in a comfortable, welcoming and less crowded environment. Wherever possible, exhibits will have adjusted operations and lowered volume levels from 8am to 10am. Volume levels and exhibit operations will return to their usual settings at 10am, when Science Worlds open to the public. Guests are welcome to stay and explore Science World as long as they wish.

    Parks Canada
    Science World welcomes its partners from Parks Canada every Wednesday to Monday throughout the summer (shows are free with admission). Check out all of their activities to learn how to enjoy our country’s national parks in a safe and sustainable way.

    OMNIMAX Theatre
    West Coast Indigenous Partnerships Presentation—This short presentation is included with your ticket to the 12pm screening of Great Bear Rainforest. Learn about how Parks Canada has partnered with the Indigenous Peoples of BC’s West Coast to restore our beautiful natural ecosystems. Film ticket required for admission.

    Centre Stage
    Fire Management Show—Learn how Parks Canada fights fire with fire! Wildfires can be a big problem for people, animals and many plants. But they can also be a necessary part of a healthy forest’s life cycle. This interactive show helps us understand how we can manage fires to maximize the benefits and reduce the risks.
    Time: 1:20pm

    Science Theatre
    Keeping Wildlife Wild—This 25-minute live theatre show helps us understand how to keep Canada’s wildlife—and ourselves—safe when we visit our national parks.
    Time: 4pm

    In addition to these shows, look for Parks Canada partners around the building all day long with their interactive touch table activities, interactive story sessions and Parka the Beaver, Parks Canada’s mascot!

    Public Health Superheroes
    Do you ever wonder what public health means? What is a public health superhero? Join the BCCDC Foundation for Public Health, in partnership with Science World, for a free public event to demystify, debunk and decode public health. Meet BC’s very own public health superheroes from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), who work tirelessly to keep you healthy and prevent harm in our communities.

    Speakers include:
    • Dr Bonnie Henry, BC Provincial Health Officer and moderator for the event
    • Dr Monika Naus, Medical Director of the Communicable Diseases and Immunization Service at BCCDC
    • Dr Troy Grennan, Physician Lead for Provincial HIV/STI Program at BCCDC
    • Sara Young, Manager, Harm Reduction and Hepatitis Services at BCCDC

    Date: August 7, 2019
    Time: 7:30pm
