Be one of the first to preview the 36 emerging design ideas of B.C.’s biggest student fashion show at the Designer Spotlight event this Thursday.
Each year, fourth-year fashion design and technology students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) host The Show: an industry-grade runway event that marks the culmination of four years of rigorous, studio-based design education.
Presented by Tamoda Apparel, The Show is more than an entertaining event. On April 6 and 7, audiences will see the final products of a full year’s worth of work, developed through multiple years of skills training. This Thursday, guests can enjoy a sneak peek behind the runway curtain of the annual event at the Wilson School of Design’s Designer Spotlight.
Hosted at KPU Richmond from 4-8 p.m., the industry preview on Jan. 28 will highlight the market research, portfolios, fabrics, creativity and business models behind each of the graduating designers’ collections. Featured lines include season-less and genderless apparel; evening wear that is as mindful as it is beautiful; clothing for men that combines formal and casual wear; gowns that fuse local art with fashion, and; sew-free surfing apparel for west coast women.
The Designer Spotlight will be in the style of an open house, and all are welcome with no registration required. Research, portfolios and all 36 designers will be present to highlight their graduate-level work.
